Their Story

It is an amazing feeling…to walk into a new place and immediately feel like you are home. That is exactly what we experienced as we got off the tap tap and walked onto the property of New Hope. Walking through the gates and seeing the children lined up against the wall, patiently waiting for our arrival was such a sweet sight and all of the fear, anxiety and worry we had experienced leading up to this day disappeared in seconds.

New Hope is an orphanage in the small town of Williamson, Haiti and aside from a piece of our hearts, is also home to nine orphans. They were taken under the wing of Lisa and Edgard, our partner’s (Kesnel Toussaint) sister and brother-in-law, who already have 7 children of their own. This little family relies on each other and the community for help. When there isn’t enough food to go around, Edgard will knock on doors and beg.

We felt an instant connection with the children, that only grew stronger as we spent the day, played, cuddled, laughed and shared a meal with them. It was one of the most special days we have ever spent in Haiti and we couldn’t imagine turning our backs. Because of that heartfelt connection and love for our new friends in Haiti, Zanmi Project and Magic Beans Corporation have joined forces to provide basic necessities for the children at New Hope. Their necessities are VERY basic: shelter, food, clothes, mattresses.

Within a month, we raised their annual rent, which allowed them to move out of their rented home that had been deemed too small for the amount of people living there. After this lovely family moved into their new home, a friend of ours raised the money to provide mattresses for all the children. We’ve also started a sponsorship program to help cover the cost of their monthly food budget and education. To date, all of the children have been sponsored. We helped paint their new home, solar panels have been installed, their bathroom and kitchen have been renovated and a playground has been built for the kids.

Dear Zanmi and Magic Beans have been considering a partnership for some time, but have not found the right project until now. We are so excited to be teaming up to help these beautiful children and truly feel that we were put in each others paths and brought to New Hope for a reason. We look forward to seeing progress at New Hope and would love for you to be a part of that.
